End of an Era

On my way to the shadow fair, I walked by the former home of Rob Warren's Skyline Books. I think an appliance store is moving into the space. There were large boxes of washing machines and dishwashers outside of the store. I bought my first rare book at Skyline in 1993. A copy of Burroughs' The Dead Star, signed by Burroughs. In the following 16 years, I stopped by Skyline every time I was in New York City. Like The Strand, it was a must. I was not in New York until I stopped at Skyline. I assumed Skyline would always be there and probably took it for granted. Looking back I should have bought more. I can honestly say that without Skyline, there is something missing in my trip to New York this year.
