At the opening to the New York Antiquarian Book Fair, I met Philip Aarons, one of the editors of In Numbers: Serial Publications by Artists Since 1955. I am not exaggerating when I say this book is a game changer. It ranks with Clay and Phillips Secret Location on the Lower East Side. Like an ostrich I have buried my head in the 1950s and 1960s, so I was completely unaware of most of the mags from the 1970s and beyond. For example, File, Vile, Periodical, and De-Coll/age are incredible.
Get a copy of In Numbers as soon as possible. Mandatory for anybody interested in artists books or literary magazines.
