I recently heard from a bookdealer friend of mine that Gerrit Lansing is in ill health. I first heard about Lansing when I worked at Second Story Books. The main book buyer there was a friend of Lansing's and recommended his work highly. Just as Olson is considered by many as derivative of Pound, Lansing is considered a satellite of Olson. That may be so, and personally I do not consider that a bad thing. I enjoy reading the poets of TISH, who are also grouped in the cult of Olson and the same holds true for Lansing. I love poets who incorporate history into their work. I especially like Set, Lansing's little mag that came out of Gloucester in the early 1960s.
